"I Love Her Still"- Dicky Dixon and the Dixie Wranglers:
"She's Not Good Looking, But I Love Her Still!"

In 1966, rockabilly musician Dicky Dixon recorded the single “I Love Her Still/Space Sickness” with his band the Dixie Wranglers on Master “W” Records. Richard “Dicky” Dixon was born on May 8, 1934 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He joined the Air Force at age 17 and served as a mechanic in the Korean War. After his military career, Dixon became a well-known musician in the Charlotte area and was an opening act for musicians such as Conway Twitty, Fats Domino, and Jerry Lee Lewis.
“I Love Her Still” tells the story of a Carolina man who is in a one-sided relationship with a woman who’s “not good lookin’” but he loves her “still” (moonshine still, that is). The track was re-released in 1973 on Socket Records backed with “Heartbreaking Blues.” The artist’s name is listed as “Dicky and the Dicky-Byrds” on the record despite it being the same 1965 recording with the Dixie Wranglers- perhaps this was just an alternate name for the band? Dixon’s band was also known as “Dicky Dixon and the Funky Country Men,” “Richard D. Dixon,” and “Dicky and the Dicky Birds.” Sadly, Dixon passed away in 2020, but he left us with some great additions to country and rockabilly music.
